Word Association – where communication changes lives
Clare Dickins
Editorial Director
Clare handles a wide variety of copywriting projects, working with clients in health, housing, local government and industry. "The more complex the issue I have to communicate, the more I enjoy the challenge of turning it into plain English, free from jargon, that people will want to read," she says.
" Word Association is a flexible company which allows everyone to be involved in making decisions that affect the business. We all share ideas when working on a communications solution for a client and the result is so much more creative."
Career Summary: Clare gained a degree in English Language and Literature at University of Durham before joining the Coventry Evening Telegraph as a postgraduate trainee reporter. She has held public relations roles with Severn-Trent Water, the Central Electricity Generating Board and Powergen. She then developed a career as a freelance writer, working with Powergen, BNFL, Land Rover and Transco. Married with a teenage son, Clare likes playing tennis, yoga, hill-walking, watching cricket and current affairs.
Communication changed my life when … I studied Old English at university. It made me realise what a terrific language we inherited from our shadowy forebears – pithy and punchy, but also poetic, with an incredibly large and flexible vocabulary. I really enjoy the challenge of using it to convey a particular message or a shade of meaning.
