Welcome to the sixth issue of The Word, which brings you the latest news from Word Association

AWARD WINNING SERVICE

Thanks to a wide range of help and support from Word Association, organisations have been in the running for some high profile awards recently.

James Butcher Housing Association in Theale near Reading is currently waiting to hear if they’ve made the shortlist for the iNbiz awards. Having interviewed the two tenants being put forward for the Good Neighbour and Leadership categories, we drafted the award application outlining what they’ve each achieved for their neighbourhood.

Various organisations including Jephson Housing Association Group in Leamington Spa have successfully gained the Charter Mark Award with our support. We helped co-ordinate a steering group to focus on different areas of the business and advised staff on how to gather and present information for the award application.

When Hinckley based specialist printer, Checkprint, was named as an ‘enterprise champion’ by winning a Queen’s Award in April, we enabled them to really make the most of this ultimate business accolade. Our innovative media relations campaign spread news of the company’s success far and wide.

CREATIVE REPORTING

What makes your annual review really stand out?

If you’re stuck for an answer, why not let us add our special creative touch to your annual review this year as we’ve just done for East Midlands Housing Association?

We’ve developed the ‘Full Circle’ annual review with a vibrant wheel design on the front cover to tie in with EMH’s Kaleidoscope initiative. Kaleidoscope was originally launched to promote diversity within the housing association but has now been developed into an overall theme to reflect the organisation’s breadth of service.

NEW TELECONFERENCING SERVICE

Watch out for Word Association’s new service which is designed to help housing staff and residents exchange ideas about new initiatives and the issues they’re dealing with.

The service, due to be launched this Autumn, will use telephone conferencing to link up people with similar interests, together with invited guest speakers, for hour long discussions. We will also provide participants with information packs and transcripts of the discussion. More details of the Autumn programme will be featured in our next ezine, along with details of how to book your place.

NEWS IN BRIEF

  • ON SHOW AT HARROGATE
Once again we exhibited at the Chartered Institute of Housing annual conference and exhibition which ran from June 21 to 24. As in previous years, we were in Hall Q where it was good to meet existing clients and contacts at the biggest event in housing. Our paper clip house give-aways were as popular as ever and a good number of new potential clients enquired about our services. We also plan to exhibit at two regional CIH conferences in Tamworth (October 6th) and Bournemourth (January 25th & 26th).
  • SPEAKING YOUR LANGUAGE
At Word Association we certainly speak your language. We can translate literature into any language quickly and accurately. For example, Moseley & District Housing Association’s Audit Commission survey highlighted the need to be more inclusive and so we stepped in and have been translating a variety of publications into community languages including Benagli and Urdu ever since. We also offer a range of other services to support inclusion including producing material in Braille and large print or on audio cassette.
  • BABY BOY
Congratulations to Finance & Administration Manager, Melanie Moore who gave birth to Daniel Joe on April 10th, weighing 7lb 2oz.
