Project: Newsletters for GPs and staff

We designed, wrote and produced two distinct newsletters for a Leicester hospital – one aimed at staff and the other targeted at local GPs. We were asked to create two quarterly newsletters for Leicester General Hospital, with the aim of making them eye-catching and informative to help them engage with their staff and local GPs.
We carried out research to find out what was needed from the two newsletters to fulfil the objective of improved communication. Using the hospital’s corporate colours and brand we then designed an attractive newsletter for staff, full of news and features of interest to them.
We named it ‘The Gen’. To fully engage staff with the publication we made sure it was packed with familiar faces, including a focus on each department in turn and a ‘spotlight’ feature on key staff members.
The newsletter aimed at local GPs also used the familiar branding and we named it ‘General Outlook’. As well as all the latest hospital news, it included features on key parts of the hospital, helpful direct dial numbers and vital stats. The focus was on treating GPs as customers.

Outcome

The staff newsletter was a popular publication which increased levels of staff engagement. ‘General Outlook’ enhanced the relationship between the hospital and local GPs, as well as reinforcing the message that the hospital had a service to offer them.
