Project: Survey into housing providers and needs of older people
Working for the Orbit Charitable Trust, we carried out a survey of smaller and specialist housing providers on their strategies covering the needs of older people.
The Orbit Charitable Trust, which helps vulnerable people sustain their well-being, asked us to survey smaller and specialist housing providers on their Older People Strategies.
It was a key part of a project investigating where housing providers are in their thinking and planning for old age, particularly the impact of dementia.
We contacted nearly 300 organisations asking them for details on their strategy for older people, if any. It covered their current practices, future plans, how they engage with older people, as well as the partners with whom they work.
It was followed up by a report analysing the survey results and a PR campaign targeted at national and regional media covering the housing, mental health and care sectors.
The survey achieved a response rate of about 30%, which was considered a good response for a survey of this type.
The result gave the Trust evidence that most organisations surveyed do not have a specific Older People’s strategy in place. The PR campaign achieved nearly £87,000 worth of national online media coverage, including a blog by Trust chairman David Hucker in the Guardian Housing Network.
