Word Association helps unite community
Word has turned a tenant newsletter into a community newsletter in a bid unite local residents and boost the reputation of an estate. The Walsall-based Beechdale Community Housing Association (BCHA) , now boasts The Noize community newspaper as part of its external communications for the residents of Beechdale. Beechdale is the childhood home of Slade’s Noddy Holder, whose ‘Cum on Feel the Noize’ rock anthem provided the inspiration behind the title of the newspaper. The full colour 12-page newspaper is produced on a quarterly basis, which delivers an interesting, entertaining and informative read for residents based around local issues surrounding the area.
June Moriarty, BCHA chief executive, said it was an exciting project. “We have high hopes for The Noize, not only as a way of communicating our messages to residents but also to help unite the community and play a part in producing a newspaper we think will reflect the personality of the estate and the people who live here,” she says. “Word Association has delivered a great concept for our residents, and we believe it will be successful in bringing the community closer together,” adds June.
The concept for The Noize was decided following a marketing and communications strategy workshop facilitated by Word Association. This was attended by BCHA staff, board members, tenant and stakeholder representatives.
