Stakeholders are vital to the success of any project or organisation.
In such a tough economic environment, and with a general election just around the corner, it’s in no doubt that the people that support us in our delivery of front line services will have to make some tough decisions.
The unprecedented intensity of the current monetary and political pressures may lead to unexpected outcomes, so now is the time to get to know your stakeholders, find out what they need and what they think about you.
At a recent NHF conference (Standing up to Scrutiny – Audit Inspection) one presenter from the Audit Commission raised some very pertinent questions:
1) Do you know what your stakeholders think about your services?
2) Do you know what your weak areas are?
3) Do you know what your stakeholders think your weaknesses are?
4) What do your tenants and key partners think?
5) Does perception match reality?
6) If asked at short notice, could you evidence reality?
Stakeholder engagement is more than just good business, it’s an opportunity to understand the people that help make your project successful. Successfully interpreting their requirements can help you generate additional funding opportunities, raise your profile and help maintain a long term future for your projects.
